The Lippmann Earth resistivity meter is a very capable yet small and low cost resistivity meter typically operated in conjunction with active electrode switch boxes (ActEle1, ActEle8 ActEle16 or ActEle24).

In 2024 SchwaRTech took over Erich Lippmann’s business, he retired, and the SchwaRTech resistivity meter was developed in 2025 with enhanced telemetry, an internal 4G modem and connectors practically moved all to the same face so package in external enclosures became more compact.

There is an optional additional cost for converting then new SchwaRTech meters into fully telemetered products with internal modem, IoT Server and web portal with communication and server costs initially paid for by SchwaRTech. In April 2025 this cost was 2800 Euros (exGermany). Groundwater Imaging Pty Ltd provide software for quick paging through, averaging and differencing of time lapse ERT datasets. Datasets are displayed graphically as either apparent resistivity or difference in apparent resistivity compared to a base image. The base image is usually an averaged image made from numerous datsets. Over a storm or irrigation event differences will show event related changes. Over a year, differences in monthly averaged images will show seasonal changes. During undermining or fluid (water or gas) extraction from boreholes, differences will show changes in deep drainage.

Telemetered imaging may be set up using electrode stakes at the surface (not recommened for long term monitoring), trenched electrode streamers using direct burial cable (and optionally, click on electrodes for extending soil contact), or long electrode takeouts on direct burial cable in boreholes. With one borehole imaging will be radially outwards from the borehole (i.e. cylidrical coordinates) but with multiple boreholes and optionally trenches too, crosshole imaging occurs. Crosshole imaging ideally needs at least 2D modelling to return its value.
