Most HERBI surveys conducted on open unobstructed water use a manned boat, even if the HERBI USV is being towed. This keeps us with the equipment and allows for faster effortless propulsion as the outboard motor does the work. It is especially important when towing submarine streamers in deep water (4 to 10m) as we then drag a 10kg weight on a chain to keep the submarine streamer on the bottom. 

The Tuff-Tender 3.1m triple hulled polyethylene rotation moulded boat is appropriate for survey as it is very stable. For floating towed TEM it has the advantage that it is not metallic and does not create inductive problems. If one side of the boat is pressed into the water it does not fill with water and capsize like aluminium dinghies can.
