For NSW government approved Floodplain Harvesting (FPH) metering requirements in reservoirs without walkways we have developed a solution that is easy to install. The official solution provided pre 2023 was not considered as reasonable by CSV installers so we invented our own and submitted it for approval. NRAR require ability to access and inspect sensors without getting in the water so simple solutions like the Yabbie system have been rejected. We have come up with a semi-trenched PVC conduit system with pulleys on a concrete pad at the sensor end and a pit at the top end into which the conduit enters. NRAR can pull the sensor up using the pulleys then return it. The procedure has been formally approved by NSW Water. It does not require the burdensome installation of the previous official method and our installation can get metering of reservoirs without walkways operational while the reservoir is still not completely empty. A clam-shell design enclosure clamps the sensor onto a concrete pad with conduit attached. For complainace only, a float marks position.
In a modification now offerred as standard, we offer a push-rod arrangment for installing and retracting the sensor as over a long distance the return cord can twist around and bind onto the downgoing cord if made out of high friction material. Note that the cost is composed mainly of bureaucratic compliance effort required to get it approved.
