Towed TEM sometimes will not provide sufficient depth of exploration, is impractical due to vegetation or mobilization cost, or requires some more robust sounding to estimate a site response so that forward modelling of a towed TEM system can be subtracted from actual measured response to estimate system response of the towed system.

If our 2 turn 12 x 12m transmitter loop is used with a Slingram (long offset approximating a dipole-dipole system) receiver loop then these ambitions can be satisfied. This loop is dragged site to site in a diamond orientation with respect to the survey line and a rope extending alone the diagonal indicates the centre and rear corner locations. At each site, once the front corner is dragged to position, the two halves are laid pulling over the walkers shoulder and reconnected at the rear corner. With 4 persons the loop may even be used in a Wallaroo system as a walked towed loop collapsing to avoid obstacles but such an arrangement is fraught with quality control risk should the walkers not be careful to keep the loop either distinctly in shape or collapsed.

This loop includes a parallel resistor for damping high frequency oscillations.
