An alternative to the WinMate IP68 touchscreen computer is a Panasonic Toughpad computer. These have great advantages and are easy to obtain but once the ports are opened they lose their IP rating. Further the connected cables are vulnerable to impacts and can even permanently damage the in-computer connection ports. We bolt a designed plate and cable anchors on the back to protrude out and protect the connections, reducing but not eliminating intermittent connection faults. The plate fits even when the computer is placed in docking stations. Note that if docking station USB ports are used then COM numbers typically change and need reconfiguring with device manager if used – chopping back and forth between direct and docking connection can be very frustrating as a result so we use the plate connectors instead.
