The handlebars are a suitable, yet perhaps not the best, way to operate the electric tractor – steering using a thumb operated joystick and walking diagonally beside the tractor. The drivers cradle is preferred for most situations but is bulkier to freight. The handlebars are typically used with a jockey wheel and batteries in-front of the tractor main wheels so that when torque needs to be applied, such as when climbing up banks of creeks, the weight goes onto the drive wheels and extra weight can be pushed down onto the handlebars to assist.
